Buses For less than 2 Euro, you may ride the regular, cheap, and dependable local buses from Heraklion airport to Bus Station A (near Heraklion port). Every half hour or so, buses leave the airport. Then take the bus to Chania, which departs every hour from 5.30 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. and costs approximately €14. This trip takes 2 hours and 45 minutes and passes through Rethymnon, so depending on your intentions, you could simply jump off and stroll about for a few hours before continuing to Chania on a later bus. Optionally, one may spend an entire evening in Rethymno.
The good old taxi cabs!
Taxis are also available from Heraklion to Chania. You may take a cab from Heraklion Airport or the Port of Heraklion. This 140-kilometre journey might take up to 2 hours (depending on traffic and season), and the fare can range between 180 and 200 euros. It is usually a good idea to negotiate and agree on a fee with the driver before getting into the cab. Cabs are a fantastic method to get to Chania if you arrive late at night, if no bus service is available, or if you want to split the cost with other travellers.
